If a WMF pressure cooker has started losing steam during cooking, taking longer than usual to build pressure, or the sealing ring around the lid looks stiff, cracked, or misshapen, it is likely time to replace the gasket. This silicone sealing ring is designed as a replacement for the sealing ring used in WMF Perfect, Perfect Plus, Perfect Premium, Perfect Ultra, and Perfect Pro pressure cookers, restoring the seal needed to build and hold pressure during cooking. A pressure cooker relies on an airtight seal between the lid and the pot to build internal pressure correctly. The sealing ring, sometimes called a gasket, rubber ring, or silicone ring, is the component responsible for that seal. Over time, exposure to heat, steam, food acids, and repeated compression gradually breaks down silicone material. It loses elasticity, may develop small cracks, can shrink slightly, or may harden and lose its ability to compress evenly against the lid. When this happens, steam can escape from around the lid rather than only through the valve, cooking times may increase, and in some cases the pot may not reach cooking pressure at all. Replacing a worn gasket is a common pressure cooker maintenance task. It is not a universal, one-size-fits-all gasket, and it is not designed for pressure cookers from other manufacturers or for WMF models not listed above.
